The Journalist as Target: From Daniel Pearl to Steven Sotloff

A Conversation with International Journalist Ilene Prusher

Ilene Prusher was a staff writer for The Christian Science Monitor and served as its bureau chief in Tokyo, Istanbul, Jerusalem and Kabul. She has covered – for Time and other news organizations – the major conflicts of the past decade in the Middle East and South Asia, where she crossed paths with Daniel Pearl. As Deputy Editor of The Jerusalem Quarterly, Prusher edited much of Steven Sotloff’s work.

She will share her experiences pursuing a challenging and often risky career in some of the world’s most fascinating and precarious regions – and will look at the dangers faced by journalists today.
