Welcome to Our Website

My name is Dr. Haim Shaked. I am the Director of the George Feldenkreis Program in Judaic Studies of the College of Arts and Sciences; as well as the Sue and Leonard Miller Center for Contemporary Judaic Studies, at UM.

On behalf of the faculty and staff of the Judaic Studies Program, I would like to thank you for your interest in our program’s website, offerings and activities.

If you are seeking to major or minor or take a cognate or even a single course in Judaic Studies while at UM, you are at the right place for authoritative information. Likewise, if you are a colleague or friend or just curious.

Our Judaic Studies Program offers undergraduates the opportunity to gain an understanding of Jewish civilization and its diverse cultural experiences, through an academic exploration of the multi-faceted, socio-historical, 4,000-year record of the Jewish people. Courses highlight the variety of cultural, political, social and religious experiences of the Jewish people in different times and places. The Program’s work is closely linked with that of the Sue and Leonard Miller Center for Contemporary Judaic Studies. The Center’s main areas of interest are: The Holocaust, Israel, the American Jewish community, and the South American/Caribbean Jewish community.

Miami and South Florida – a major international destination - are also blessed with a large, thriving and very diverse Jewish community, providing an opportunity to get involved with major Jewish organizations, such as the Greater Miami Jewish Federation.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at jsp@miami.edu.

With my best wishes,
